PROTOP History

PROTOP was originally established in Italy in 1991 although operating since 1989 as an engineering consulting service for wind farm developments. The original name was PROTOP Italia.

1991-1994 – PROTOP ITALIA (est.d 1991)

  • Wind farming projects: feasibility studies and design
  • Construction Management of Residential and commercial building constructions
  • Engineering Consultant and engineering surveyor for the construction of the Highway “Fortorina”
  • Construction site management of wind farm developments with a total of 129 WTGs (61.4 MW) and all related electrical, mechanical, civil and road works
  • Technical consultancy to Riva Calzoni Spa – Bologna (Italy)
  • Installation of first anemometer (10m mast) in “Noceverde” San Giorgio la Molara (BN) Italy
  • Project and Engineering Management for road and building works in Tirane (ALBANIA) – highway Tirane-Durres 42km

1994-1998 – PROTOP ITALIA srl

  • 40MVA substation, 11Km underground 22kV power line and 21Km overhead 150kV power line
  • 29.2MW Wind farm, underground reticulation and substation
  • Installation of anemometers and meteorological masts to support wind farm production monitoring
  • Technical consultancy to IVPC (Italian Vento Power Corporation) and VESTAS

In 1998, PROTOP Australia was established (also with the name MOFFA Engineering). The sole trade business worked as a Wind Farm Consultant for PowerCorp Pty Ltd, a Northern Territory company operating from Berrimah and associated with the German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon. With Powercorp, PROTOP was involved in several wind farm projects spanning the entire Australian territory from the Albany Wind Farm in Western Australia to the Atherton Tablelands Wind Farm in upper Queensland.

During the period from 1998 to 2006, PROTOP Australia/MOFFA Engineering was operating from an office in 64 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide, providing also engineering services to South Australian companies. In the year 2000, the major project was represented by the site management of all underground service construction at the Pelican Point power Station, 486MW co-generation plant.

In April 2006, the business suspended operations as Nic Moffa was employed by ElectraNet.

In November 2015, PROTOP – project management services Pty Ltd was established as an Australian Company and in August 2016 the Company started operating from the premises in 95 Hutt Street, Adelaide

Numerous projects were undertaken by the newly established Company with the first project being the Adelaide Central Reinforcement T2T 275kV underground cable relocation.

Since then, PROTOP – project management services Pty Ltd, trading as PROTOP Engineering Services is operating from Hutt Street with offices updated to accommodate for up to 7 employees and at least 5 contractors.

The name PROTOP Engineering Services is mainly associated to cable engineering and HV cable connections to the grid from wind farms, solar farms and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The company specialises in project management of sustainable/renewable power generation projects.

Currently, PROTOP Engineering Services has the best resources for cable Engineering in Australia and most probably the entire Southern Hemisphere.

PROTOP has 50% of shares of Transform Training, a Registered Training Organisation, to integrate with the training programs and mentoring performed by PROTOP Engineering Services.
